LEARNS

The nephrotic syndrome is characterized by the loss of protein in the urine, low protein levels in the blood and fluid accumulations in the body. The standard treatment of the condition consists of the administration of prednisolone. Most children respond well to this treatment, but unfortunately the condition reoccurs to many children after the first treatment.

The LEARNS study investigates a possible better treatment of the first episode of the nephrotic syndrome to prevent relapses. In the study it is examined whether the addition of levamisole to the standard treatment with prednisolone can prevent relapses. A part of this study is examining Quality of Life, psychosocial functioning, and the family and school functioning of the patients. Quality of Life in this patient group has never been measured at different moments in the course of the condition.
